Linda Curtis has worked to get independent candidates on the ballot for about 30 years. Her experience has taught her that, although most Texans consider themselves independent, it’s difficult for independent candidates to gain momentum to build a movement. The difficulty comes from the number of signatures required, and the short time-frame in which to gather those signatures, for independent statewide candidates.
Texans for Voter Choice is working with Linda, and other our other coalition partners, to pass the Texas Voter Choice Act, which was introduced in the Texas House in 2017. It establishes more reasonable requirements for independent and minor party candidates to get on the ballot. If you think that more options on the ballot would lead to better conversations about public policy, join our #flushthesystem campaign.
